Experienced Formulation Scientist Becomes Director of Life Sciences

Division: Simulations Plus

Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced today the appointment of Dr. John Crison as Director, Life Sciences for the Company.

Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: “For over eleven years, Dr. Michael Bolger has served Simulations Plus very well as Director of Life Sciences and will be continuing as Chief Scientist. A few years ago Mike retired from the University of Southern California in order to work full time with Simulations Plus directing the development and growth of our Cheminformatics and Simulation software teams. Mike currently lives and works about 350 miles from our offices in Lancaster. The telecommuting arrangement worked well when the team was smaller, but with our rapidly growing team here in Lancaster, he and I agreed that we needed an on-site director. Finding someone with the right mix of skill and experience was challenging. We’ve been searching patiently for several years to fill this position, and we’re very pleased that Dr. Crison decided to join us in this capacity.”

Woltosz continued: “John’s 17 years of R&D experience and 8 years as a registered pharmacist include about ten years working with our long-time collaboration partner, Dr. Gordon Amidon of the University of Michigan and Therapeutic Systems Research Laboratories (TSRL), where John was Corporate Vice President, Research and Development. He joined Pfizer at La Jolla, California, in 2002, becoming an Associate Research Fellow, providing mentoring and leadership on formulation development for discovery through preclinical and clinical development, as well as securing funding for and managing more than 15 strategic alliances. From 2005 to 2007, he was Vice President of Pharmaceutical Products at MediVas in San Diego. John’s experience includes simulation and modeling of gastrointestinal absorption, dissolution, and controlled release dosage form design as well as ocular delivery. John’s skills go beyond the science of what we do. He is an excellent presenter and will certainly be involved in some of the travel and support of customer training, consulting, and marketing and sales activities along with most of our other scientists.”
Dr. Crison added: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with the elite team of scientists at Simulations Plus. I was a GastroPlus user for a number of years in Michigan, and I’m looking forward to being in a position to help guide Simulations Plus to achieve new levels of excellence in its best-in-class tools and consulting services for the pharmaceutical industry.”.
